For the love of fairy kei

about a week ago Gabi posted u an article about how she was sick of seeing all the AP clones. As you know sometimes people have opposing views. This is such a case.

I'm absolutely SICK of seeing people complain about AP clones. I'll say it right now. I couldn't care less that it isn't rococo or victorian ITS LOLITA. Lolita isn't historical costues it's a style in it of itself Do you REALLY think that the Victorians wore lack dresses with crosses or flower print every day? HELL NO. They wore simple floor length dresses in plain colors with minimal accesories (if you wore more than 2 things that would be pretty vulgar) NOT LOLITA.

And i'll say this right now: Gothic-classic is lovely but its had it's run (a long 20+year one at that) Lolita is a fashion. Fashions have trends and right now GOTHIC ISN'T IN STYLE. I'm sorry, its the truth. sweet is just more popular at the moment.

I think its absolutely ridic to say that sweets are silly looking. Three words: LOOK AT YOURSELF, multiple petticoats, ruffles upon ruffles, ect. Quite frankly WE'RE ALL SILLY LOOKING SO STOP LOOKING DOWN ON THE CLONES. It's stupid to criticize someone because of what they wear (sound familiar girlies?) When you start saying a lolita looks stupid/too ruffly/too bright/too childish who do you sound like? The people who give lolitas constant criticism for what they wear Sweet lolitas already get more slack when they go out in public that gothics/classics, why do we need to get it from them as well? Lolita is childish and whats more childish than bunnies/fawns/cakes/ect? Its what little girls fantasize about! Overdecoration is what lolita's all about! Its arguably the most innocent, elegant style of all

LOLITA ISNT ALL ROCOCO/VICTORIAN. I will say this again and again It's silhouette is %100 fifties but no one gives the 50's a shred of credit (The fifties had a never ending list of lovely classic things) THE 80's or where lolita's got their headbows. The 90's or when gothic THRIVED in both lolita and mainstream fashion (Madona much?) The 90's gave Gothics their lace gloves/jewelry/ect. Look at this and you tell me whats more gothic-loli: this or this? Arguably the goths were inspired by victoriana but as you can tell they are VERY DIFFERENT.The 80's are when the wonderful world of pretty very fairy kei loli colors were born and now thrive.

TD:RL: LOLITA:ITS GONNA BE VERY SPANK! FOR QUITE SOME TIME. Live with it biotches :D

How many lolitas like kicking some ass? (G)

So...I've been dying to know...

How many of you lolis out there play MMORPGs? You know, the nerdy sword fighting game where you go kill monsters and stuff.

Haha well...I'm supposing that not many do :P But...I play this game right here in the picture. It is epic, it's called Mabinogi and I think its the best MMORPG I've tryed in all of my nerdy gaming career. I mean really, you can be anything. If you like music you can use Mabinogi's (mabi for short) music composing app to make music, you can even make covers of you're favorite loli music :D. If you like cooking, they have a unique system set up for cooking using fractions and ovens and shiz (I myself cook, its tedious opening up Gordon's secret shop to get the advancement books though =\). You can even make clothes too. Heck, you can make potions, weave, blacksmith, anything your nerdy minds can imagine. Of course, you can choose to skip all that production and just go straight to kickin' some monster butt.

If by chance anyone reading this already plays the game, my main is in the mari server and my username is rabbitgirl1, tell me you found me through this post :D

I could honestly rant on and on about things that won't make sense to everyone out there who doesnt play the game (for example, how I'm struggling to raise 30k from repeating rabbie dungeon to get 30 elemental removers to get an egoed gladius :P) but since no one will understand what I'm saying, I'll skip right to the point.

Where does this fit into loli?

Actually, to be honest, it doesn't fit into loli that much :P I just wanted to reccomend a nice game to all my loli MMORPG buddies out there. But i suppose some of the clothes they have available are pretty loli-able.

Actually, I'm saving up money to get me a bit of a loli wardrobe (Ima have to get more pets to fit them all in though) of course, theres no Victorian Maiden in the game but, there are lots of nice knee-length poofy dresses that are pretty darn close to loli (for example, a non playing character, fleta, she has a really cute, definetly loli-able outfit, I want it D:) But it'll be a long time and I'll need lots of money to build it up (just like in real life)

It is a really interesting game though, If you get tired of killing monsters or tired of making food/music/clothes/whatever then they have generation quests and regular quests to keep you busy. Of course, making lots of friends that enjoy the fashion you do make it even more fun! The generation quests are like a book you can't put down, the plot is interesting and thickens the deeper you get into it and there are many sweet side quests that will make you smile (there was one, with a mermaid who everyone kept throwing stones at her, she thought it was because she was ugly. So she asks you to go around and ask people what their ideal type of person is. Then in the end, when you gather them all, she asks you to ask a specific person about his ideal. You ask him, then he mentions a beautiful mermaid he once saw, so you tell the mermaid this, she wants to know why he threw rocks at her, he says that he can't put into words exactly why...so he makes a song, it definetly made me go 'awww'. He says in the song that she was extremly beautiful and he was so shy and didn't want to say anything because he was shy. So he threw rocks at her to cover up how he felt. Sweet right? A bit biazzare mainly because i can't explain it well, but it was sweet :D)

This is a pretty short post but I felt like reccomending a game to whoever wanted to try it, it is extremly easy to follow, when you first join the game they give you clear directions on how the game works, then your friends can show you all the tips and tricks.

Is everything I know wrong? D: (G)

Hi everyone,

Recently, to be blunt, I realized that all it really is in Lolita now a days are people like this:

-refreshs ap homepage- MUST GET THE NEW AP DRESS WHEN IT COMES IN STOCK OR I WILL DIE

OMG WANNA TWIN IN AP?

I LOVE THIS NEW AP DRESS

LOL MILKY CHAN!

OMG SUGARY CARNIVAL

MELTY CHOCOLATE IS TO DIE FOR!

See a pattern going on (and yes, caps was necessary :P)? All it is now is Angelic Pretty. It makes me sad. I mean, by no means is there actually something wrong with it but...I feel alone. I really feel that im one of the 10 gothic lolitas out of the 12,000+ lolitas out there (of course, 10 is an exageration). See i noticed that people are starting to slowly branch out of the lolita aesthetic, after all, it is based on victorian/rococo little children's clothing. Sadly, victorian/rococo kids did not actually wear things perhaps the way we do now but, emphasis on based. Do you really think that kids in the victorian/rococo would wear pink, red, candies, ruffles, lace (okay, you got me, im pretty sure they wore alot of lace :P) and friggin deer on their dresses? I doubt it.

I really miss lolita when it was just starting out, all it was was A-lines in dark colors with a frilly white yoke. Now a days, even on Mary Magdalene or Victorian Maiden you can not find that stuff, it's like ancient now or something.

I know what all you AP lovers are going to say: 'if you don't like AP, don't look, gosh.' Well first of all, no matter where i turn in the lolita communities...there is AP o-o. I like AP (never in my life would i ever wear it and actually feel comfortable in it though xD) but...that's all lolita is now a days D: If you go up to a random person and ask what lolita is, you'll get 1 of 4 options

1. What's lolita? The book you mean?

2. Oh you mean those chicks who dress like little girls to attract men? (i hope no one will ever be given this answer D:)

3. Oh well, gothic lolita is lots and lots and lots and lots of black, short skirts, sexy looking shirts, and looots of black. (Admitdly, this is the opinion of most anime fans who dont know about lolita)

4. Oh you mean those girls who always dress in pink and red with giant poofy skirts and candies on their dresses?

It's a bit sad. I personally try to keep my lolita toned down, but its sometimes fun to go overboard but i know that im going overboard, and in my opinion overboard is jumping over the boundary of what little kids would wear =\.

Now if you wear AP or something 'over the boundary' I'm not gonna automatically hate you and troll you or anything, in fact i most likely won't think much of it but i just wish it was back to the old days D:

Although I'm complaining about all this, it makes me feel kinda special in the fact that i stand out ('cause irl i really don't xD) but at the same time i feel bad because i don't necessarily 'fit in' either. Like I'm afraid a group of AP-holics are going to exclude me in their tea parties if I wear h-naoto or something(not that there are any lolitas where I live to begin with =\). Maybe I'm paranoid? Hm...

Anyway, pointless rant that is pointless is over :3

also, why are most itas anime fans attemping goffik rorita? (engrish is necessary)

Chao, Gabi

p.s. un lolita related but how many of you love len's dress in imitation black? Not really lolita but it's still awesome xD (although in fate:rebirth there's much more lolita influence in his outfit o3o)

Offbrand lolita (G&S [but mostly S])

Stephanie: It seems nowadays a big part of lolita is ordering your clothing somehow. Usually if you can't afford brand, there are alternatives such as ordering from Bodyline or Anna House. Then there are the wonderful indie brands who make beautiful clothing that is brand quality, if not better. And this is great, before lolitas had no real options but to buy from brand (the only ones who shipped oversees) or handmake their own clothing. Still, despite all these things, there are some lolitas who can't get a hold of clothing either way. Sometimes its a matter of sizing, or maybe your parents (it always comes back to my parents for me XD) won't let you, think the prices are ridiculous (like they haven't seen $40 shoes before...) or simply don't like the idea of ordering online.

Ordering online is kinda iffy in my opinion. I've heard lots of horror stories where girls get bad quality dresses, their shoes come in bags (coughcough*bodyline*coughcough) or are smashed and ruined. It's frustrating not having the product in front of you, where you can examine the quality, size and comfort before you buy. Sometimes the company won't take refund your money if these things happen.

This is not to say you shouldn't order online if you want to. Both Gabi and I have ordered online with no problems. But the point I'm trying to make is you shouldn't have to. Lolita started on the streets after all. Girls bought from thrift stores, handmade dresses, and wore offbrand things to fit this idea they had in their heads, of victorian elegance and rococo extravagance. Just because brands started making clothing for the fashion doesn't mean you can't make do with offbrand. Some girls prefer buying offbrand because they can see the quality, try it on, ect.

Gabi: I was lucky 'cause when I ordered shoes from Bodyline (yes im cheap) that was before all this DHS or whatever it is troubles so my shoes came in a nice box :D

Stephanie: So! Moving on to what this post is about, what things can you find from offbrand stores?

Shoes:
I actually quite like offbrand shoes. Lots of lolita shoes are cute, but not very practical for everyday use. I find that a pair of pretty, short heels work into lots of sweet outfits, and you can find cute ballet flats in every color under the rainbow under $20. If you think they're too plain, try some vintage or brand shoe clips, or get creative with ribbons, rhinestones, lace, pearls, feathers, ect. Since lots of shoes are relatively simple, you can do whatever you like with them! Lots of sweetish shoes can be found at stores like Dillards, JCPenny, Macys, ect. If you have small feet, find out what size you are in girls shoes. Adorable Mary Janes are abundant in girl's sizes, I found a pair that looked quite a bit like Tea Parties once (sadly I'm a size 9 D:) If you're a gothic lolita, Demonia has some interesting shoes. I've seen chunky boots, high heel mary janes, ect on their websites. So many shoes come in dark colorways, so finding some nice shoes shouldn't be too hard. I've seen lots of boots that could be used in classic, and i always though some classy heels would looks lovely paired with a classic A-line dress.

Gabi: I actually have not gone to Target or Wal-mart or anything like that with a goal of finding lolita shoes but...I can't say that i haven't found one or two loli-able shoes when i go shopping xD

Stephanie: Blouses:
This...This is a bit more difficult. Now, I can't guarantee you'll find a perfect venice lace edged peter pan collar blouse at Target, but you can find some pretty ruffly shirts sometimes. Watch out for quality, though. I typically wont buy something if the shirt isn't %100 cotton, or buttons all the way to the top. Usually if you look harder, you can find some pretty victorian inspired blouses with lots of ruffles. Watch out for anything with lace on it, and if it does have lace make sure its thick and soft. If you fit into children's sizes, i've seen some peter pan collar polos before, but finding a peter pan collar on an adult womens blouse is pretty rare. If you're handy with a sewing machine, you can alter a pointy collar into a peter pan collar. I usually mess up when doing this (My sewing isn't PERFECT...) So i embellish the collar with a bit of ruffled eyelet or cluny lace. Look out for blouses anywhere that sells lots of random stuff (TJMaxx, Ross, Forever 21, ect) as well as department stores. I personally like Charlotte Russe and Target for blouses, but most stores have loliable shirts.

Dresses/Jumperskirts/Skirts:
This...This is a lot more difficult XD. Most dresses nowadays aren't made specifically to fit pettis underneath, but if you keep your eyes peeled, you can find some interesting things. I found a beautiful mint dress with gorgeous Venice lace along the bust at a Dillards near my house, it could even accomodate a petti! Too bad it was $70... If you fit into kids sizes (kids get to wear the cutest things XD) you can usually find a dress that can easily be poofed up. I found a 50's inspired dress for $20 at JCPennys in the kids section once. Finding loliable dresses is a bit difficult, but its not impossible if you search really hard. If you're into punk, there are some cool plaid casual skirts that have been popping up alot lately. Most of the time, you'll have to buy or make a skirt designed specifically for lolita, because there is no way to get that silhouette from simply sticking a petti under any skirt you find at a store.

Petticoats:
Usually, offbrand petticoats are too short for lolita skirts, poofing out, then dropping the rest of the fabric.

Gabi: Hot topic we're looking at you >.>

Stephanie: But some petticoats (for example, a couple of leg avenue ones would work) layered create that bell shape. I own a Hot Topic petticoat I use just for layering under a petticoat made specifically for lolita. Don't buy any square dancing pettis though, they wont give you that bell shape. Instead, use offbrand pettis to give your curent petticoat a bit of extra poof.

Outerwear:
Coats are not made to accommodate multiple layers of pettis nowadays. Occasionally, one might pop up, but for the most part long coats and bell skirts are out of the question (though you can find some neat aristo things) I advise looking at jackets that cut off where your poof begins so you can wear them without worrying about crushed poof. Look for simple jackets in pink, white, and black, or any other colors you usually wear. Wool ones are nice when its really cold, but some thick, soft ones work too. GAP and other brands make some cute cardigans you can wear either with only the top button buttoned so the rest flares out on your skirt, or with as many as you can button until you hit your skirt, in which case the sweater would flare over. Some furry earmuffs can be found at Claires or Forever 21, and gloves and scarves anywhere, really. If you like hoodies, you can find cute Sanrio or simple ones to wear with a casual cordinate. Think about what kind of outfit you would wear in certain weather before you buy something. A mint scarf might go with your mint JSK, but if you don't have the right blouse or jacket to wear with because it's such a summery piece, it wont be used much. As long as you keep the poofy skirt in mind when picking out outerwear, you can find some cute offbrand pieces

Jewlery:
This is by far the easiest thing to find in my opinion. Claire's and Icing sell plenty of sugary sweet things, and I've seen some cameos and pearls at places like Macy's, Forever 21, ect. Some of my favorite finds are a pretty string of pearls, rose brooches, bow necklaces, cake rings, silver filigree crosses, lace chokers, silver charm bracelets, ect. Take inspiration from your favorite brand's advertisements and looks for jewlery that reminds you of those. I've seen strawberry earrings that remind me of AP, and a couple of pretty hairclips that looked like something even Momoko would wear.

Hairstuffs:
No, actually, these might be the easiest things to find. I've found lots of cute bow hairclips at Claires and Forever 21. Even though they're a children's store, but The Childrens Place and Gymboree have lots of sweet. I've noticed that one thing thats popular now is those headbands with two bows on one side. My non lolita friend wore something similar by clipping two identical bow clips on the side of a headband.

Gabi: Even though they're Hot Topic bows with ita lace >3> (yes we hang out with emo people, but they're happy emos~)

Stephani: Emo peeps are cool though D:. I've seen mini tophats once at Torrid and Forver 21, along with some pretty flower headbands that would look pretty with classic or gothic. I can't promise you you'll find a head eating bow at Claires (there are some big ones, but most are satin, and you know how touchy lolitas get with satin...) but you can find some cute things to add into a toned down daily wardrobe.

Socks:
You can find them at hot topic, Target, costume stores, ect for $10 and less. They come in cute colors, stripes, ect in varying lengths. You can also buy colored tights for cheap.

These are a few (well, more than a few!) ideas to keep in mind when shopping offbrand. Make sure to remember the rules of modesty, the quality, the silhouette, and the overall lolita aesthetics when shopping for things. The great thing about offbrand shopping is that you can build a lolita wardrobe up inexpensively and quickly, along with he benefit of having a unique look when you coordinate. Try taking a break from drooling over brand and see what kinds of things you can get from you local stores. My favorite thing about offbrand is that you're forced to be creative and look at garments, not how they are presented to you, most likely on a rail-thin model with shiny bangles and unbuttoned buttons, but under a JSK with added lace and cute accessories. Happy shopping!
~Steph & Gabi :3

PS+ aren't those earmuffs the cutest things you ever saw? I found them on this UK website called Monsoon Accessorize. Lucky British lolis ^_^ I'm sure anyone could find some fuzzy earmuffs at Claires and make some similar ones, I think it's going to be my next project :D

Introduction Post! (G&S)

Gabi:

Hi everyone! This is an introduction post. (No...really? ._.) I am Gabi and I am a LolitaOtaku . Um...Well...This is a blog...about...LolitaOtakus o_o.

Okay well anyway, I am a Gothic Lolita (giant cupcake skirts [a.k.a Angelic Pretty] just dont suit me >.<) who often ventures into Classic and Punk. My favorite brands are Atelier Boz (epicest aristocrat brand ever), H. naoto (they're assymetricality [is that even a word?] impresses me), Black Peace Now (they're just overall epic) and Rose Melody (kind of an obscure brand [they're also chinese but unlike milanoo they don't scam people] but i fell in LOVE with a dress that was on qutieland).

As far as animes go my personal favorite is d. gray man (too bad hoshino is always on hiatus). My favorite characters are Allen, Kanda, Lenalee, Lavi (basically the main 4) and road x3 she's so creepy its cool. Oh and vocaloid is epic too, my favorites have to be luka gakupo and gumi (huh, i just noticed that i like all the ones that aren't part of the 'family') and current favorite fandom songs are imitation black (len in a dress is epic D:) and fate:rebirth (continuation of imitation black, i raped this song when it came out a week ago) and thats basically all you need to know about me!

Wait...i forgot one thing, i draw. And if i may say so myself im pretty epic at it. I have a deviantart (yukifan1.deviantart.com) but i have not updated in forever (sorry all my watchers! I've improved alot since my last post!) but im planning to post soon and when i do i will...eh...who knows what I'll do but im already workin' on a picture and it's almost done and then I'll scan it in and everyone will be happy and we'll frolic in fields of flowers and I'll trip and fall in my epicly tall mary janes and then everyone will abandon me because i tripped and fell and they'll call my mary janes stripper shoes even though they're not (true story actually, my non-loli friends thought they were stripper shoes just 'cus they're tall D:)

Stephanie's turn now!

Stephanie:

Hey there. Well, I'm gonna go and introduce myself now!

I'm sweet lolita, in case you can't tell by the profile at the left. I adore angelic pretty, no matter how crazy it can get. I love mam maxicimam, and my other favorite brands are Pink Macaroon, Candy Violet, and Cerise Q (incredible indie brands are incredible!) Baby isn't really my thing,

Gabi: Shut up, btssb is awesome D<

Stephanie: ... ._. but i do love their stuff sometimes. I really like juliette et justine and victorian maiden as well, though they don't make much sweet . I LOVE LOVE LOVE Emily Temple Cute and Jesus Diamante! Although they aren't necesarily lolita.

I have a thing for jFashion. I will most likely post lots about fairy kei, hime-gyaru, mori girl, natural kei, fruits, and other fashions in addition to lolita. I love classics and fairy tales, some of my favorite books are Little Women, A Little Princess, The Phantom of the Opera Alice in Wonderland (though i prefer looking glass myself) and many others (i gobble up books like food XD)

You can bet i'm gonna put some how to's and DIY posts here, i really like crafting! I can sew, knit, crochet, embroider (freehand and crosstitch, i look forward to learning how to ribbon embroider and do crewel work) I love literature, and writing lots of odd little poems in my math spiral (when i should be working T_T)

Thats all i can think of for now! hope to hear from you all soon!

Gabi:

Also, i bet you're wondering what the (G&S) meant in the title, it just meant Gabi and Stephanie meaning we're both gonna post in this one. There are gonna be times where there are posts when its just Stephanie or when it's just me in that case it will be either (G) or (S) and once in a while we will have stephanie's neighbor anna (who is also into lolita) post in here too, in that case it will be (G,S&A). We will try (emphasis on try) to be as entertaining as possible by making our posts as funny as possible but to a limit because honestly, who wants to read a boring post?

Oh and sorry for lack of picture in this post >.<

Also Stephanie, your beansprout's a mom! D<
